FAQ

What inspires you to make music?

I think a lot about how classical music can reach out to a bigger scope of audiences. The classical music popularization has been a classical musicians’ long term project.  As a young musician, I love incorporating creative concepts in concerts and bringing new audiences into classical music. By doing so, I believe that music becomes an active part of our society and thus achieve the mission ‘music is our lives.’ 💜

How many hours do you practice?

I wish I could answer in simple numbers! But, that’s very hard because hours vary depending on what I aim to achieve during the daily practice sessions. Usually I have weekly goals and with that I decide what I need to achieve daily. Bigger goals need a maximum of 7 hours which happens very very very rarely, and smaller goals are just ‘rest’ which I do skip days of practice. 😉  Believe it or not, rest refreshes my views when I come back to the piano again. What I wanna say is, don’t force yourself to practice when you don’t feel like it! That will most likely just form bad habits in the working process.

What’s your tips on learning new pieces?

I just dive into reading through the score. By doing this, I get to have an idea of big structures. The more times I play through, the smaller my focus breaks down to. The big structures become longer phrases, the longer phrases become smaller ones, and finally the intervals. When I start noticing small variations between the patterns, I feel like I know the piece half way. It’s the time to focus on interpretation, the more fun part! 😃 Keep in mind that everyone has different approaches, just find the one which fits you best.

When did you decide to be a pianist?

I don’t think there was a specific moment that I decided to become a pianist. I’m here after following what I felt right at different moments. There was a time in my teenage years when my parents suggested I stop playing piano. I don’t know why, but I just got upset without even trying to convince my parents. I refused to eat until the moment I sat at the piano again. 😂 Since then, I knew my passion for the piano was very strong and that no one could stop me. Actually, I’ve also tried dabbling with psychology during college, but my strongest passion was always music. So, I guess it was natural for me to be where I am now. :)
